The Department of Public Health at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Postdoc in the field of Diabetes Epidemiology as per 1 September or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for the duration of 2 years, based on a grant from the Danish Diabetes Academy.

As a staff member at the Department of Public Health, you will be part of an ambitious and internationally recognised department, where we work together to promote public health through research into areas that can prevent, treat and alleviate disease. We are involved in broad collaboration both internally and externally. We share our knowledge with citizens, decision-makers, business and industry, practitioners and other researchers - in municipalities, in the regions and both nationally and internationally. The department either contributes to or is responsible for teaching in medicine, public health science, sport science, optometry and nursing. At the Department of Public Health, you will have approx. 200 colleagues, including ninety academic staff members and a corresponding number of PhD candidates. About the research project
The research project will focus on how reproductive health characteristics can help us to understand heterogeneity, intergenerational risk and long-term consequences of diabetes in women.

It consists of three main areas of work:

1. Exploration of heterogeneity in GDM risk and GDM subtypes and application of these insights to develop a GDM risk prediction model, based on data from The Danish Blood Donor Study.
2. Using Danish Register data (under the DP-Next project) to develop register-based risk prediction models for GDM and T2DM incorporating reproductive health and pregnancy characteristics as well as intergenerational effects based on further linkage with data from the Danish National Birth Cohort.
3. Comparison of multimorbidity incidence and healthcare resource utilisation between women with pre-existing T2DM in pregnancy and those with a normoglycemic pregnancy, based on an extant cohort of women with pre-pregnancy T2DM.

Your job responsibilities
As Postdoc in Diabetes Epidemiology your position is primarily research-based but may also involve teaching assignments. You will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with colleagues on your project, where you will receive supervision and guidance.
Your main tasks will consist of:

• Independent research of high international quality, including publication.
• Data handling, analysis and reporting of results on the studies described above, using an open and reproducible research approach
• Coordination of the collaborative connection with the various cohorts used in the study as well as active participation in the DP-Next project Maastricht Study team and the Swedish National Diabetes Register regarding the validation of models
• Presentation of results at internal (SDCA and AU-PH), national and international meetings and conferences
• Contribution to the teaching commitments of the Department of Public Health, in topics related to diabetes epidemiology
• Active participation in the academic activities of the Department of Public Health as well as Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus.

You will report to Cecilia Ramlau-Hansen, Head of the Section of Epidemiology, Environment and Biostatistics at the Department of Public Health, AU and to Daniel R. Witte, Head of the diabetes epidemiology research group at Steno Diabetes Center.

Your competences

• Background in human medicine or a health-related science.
• Completed qualifications at PhD-level.
• Excellent scientific track record in diabetes epidemiology research evidenced by at least 10 peer-reviewed scientific publications, of which at least 5 as first author.
• A strong track record in the analysis of large and complex health register data.
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Experience with teaching of epidemiology and related topics.
• High-level experience with software environments for statistical computing, preferably ’R’.
• Commitment to open and reproducible research practices
• An inquisitive mindset and an enthusiastic, dedicated and collaborative attitude.

As a person, you are ambitious, take ownership and possess good communication and interpersonal skills. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.

Terms of employment

• Appointment as a postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
• Further information on the appointment procedure can be found in the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities .
• The appointment is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).
• Remuneration is in accordance with the above, and the Salary agreement catalogue for staff at Health .
• The yearly base salary for a fulltime postdoc is between DKK 484.214,84 and DKK 538.720,20 depending on the years of working experience after achieved MSc degree. The base salary includes a position related supplement and pension (17.1 %). Additional supplement(s) for special qualifications can be negotiated. Authorisation supplemement(s) will be granted, if relevant for the position. Your local eligible trade union representative at Aarhus University negotiates your salary on your behalf.
