DTU is offering 2,109 places to young people following a 6 per cent increase in the number of first-choice applications.
An impressive number of applications has given 2,109 young people access to one of DTU’s 41 study programmes. This is the final target for DTU’s enrolment in August 2025, when the university-despite growing interest-will offer fewer study places as a result of the political agreements on ’More and better educational opportunities throughout Denmark’ and ’Agreement on the framework for reform of university education in Denmark’.
The number of first-choice applications to DTU for the August intake rose by 6% compared to last year.
"This is a fantastic number of applications, which means that we are full on virtually all programmes, and that is very gratifying," says Lars D. Christoffersen, Dean of Education and Study Environment.
"But again this year, I am left with the feeling that the race for places on programmes is not entirely fair. Prospective students are competing in an increasingly tough and competitive environment, where we have to turn away many qualified students due to the political constraints imposed on us. It is difficult to explain when we know how high the demand for qualified engineers is in the business community," he says.
The enrolment of 2,109 students at DTU in August 2025 should be seen in relation to the fact that last year the university offered a place to 2,206 young people. Due to political agreements, DTU has been forced to reduce the number of places from 2024 to 2025 and will continue to reduce them until 2030. The reductions mean not only fewer study places, but also that DTU will have to reject more qualified applicants this year than in previous years. At the same time, it has become more difficult to get into a programme this year, as the majority of programmes are full and have closed their admissions.
Civil engineering bachelor’s programme
DTU has offered places to a total of 1,297 new bachelor’s students this year, compared to 1,424 last year. It is virtually full, with only the digital programme in Engineering Science (technology) having places available after 28 July.
Diploma engineer programme
DTU has offered a total of 812 new diploma engineer places this year, compared to 782 last year. The impressive enrolment figures for the diploma engineer programmes mean that several programmes are now full and closed with an admission quota.
Study places available
From Monday 28 July, study places will be offered on five of the diploma engineering programmes and on the bachelor’s programme in Engineering Science (Technology) at dtu.dk. Applications for the available study places can be submitted until 7 August, and Admissions will notify new students by 15 August at the latest.
Welcome to DTU
DTU is continuing this year with the successful concept for the start of the academic year that was launched last year. A start to the academic year that includes everyone.
New students will be welcomed digitally via DTU’s study start course How to DTU, which is introduced in the admission letter. Here, new students will have the opportunity to get to know DTU well before the physical study start at the end of August.
The intro days, with the physical welcome to DTU, will start in both Lyngby and Ballerup on Wednesday 27 August, where the vectors will be ready to welcome the new students. On Friday 29 August, there will be an intro day with an intro party in the evening. On Saturday, the intro programme will continue with Polytechnic summer fun.
A special study start will be arranged for the study programmes starting in Frederikshavn and Sisimiut.
Monday 1 September is the start of the semester and the first day of classes for all DTU students.
