BEng in Industrial Engineering

The production of future sustainable solutions will form the foundation of the new Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering, BEng, which will be based at DTU Risų Campus.

DTU Risų Campus is known for its leading research and innovation environments in, among other areas, sustainable energy technologies and systems. Now, campus activities are being expanded with a brand-new BEng in Industrial Engineering.

This summer, the first students will begin to learn to work on the production and maintenance of sustainable energy solutions, including, among other fields, solar and wind energy, as well as the design and scaling of new technologies-from prototypes to industrial production.

The BEng programme is closely linked to the research conducted at DTU Risų Campus, says Dean of Studies and Student Affairs Lars D. Christoffersen, who is looking forward to welcoming the first students:

"Risų is home to internationally leading research environments in several areas that are critically important to the green transition. This makes it a perfect starting point for educating the engineers who will, in the future, develop and operate the production of a sustainable energy supply."

New education campus

According to Lars D. Christoffersen, education will play an increasingly important role at Risų in the future:

"With the establishment of Industrial Engineering, we are well underway in developing Risų as a new and important education campus on par with our other campuses. We plan to establish additional programmes that can benefit from the strong research environments and contribute to a research and education ecosystem of truly high quality."

At Roskilde City Hall, there is also anticipation ahead of the first intake of students to the new BEng programme, says the city’s mayor, Tomas Breddam:

"As a university city, we are proud to be able to offer a new, world-class Bachelor of Engineering programme based on the unique research and innovation taking place at Risų. We look forward to welcoming future DTU students to the vibrant study environment for which Roskilde is known."

Vision to create a hotspot

The BEng programme is part of DTU’s vision to create an international hotspot for energy and biotechnology at Risų, where researchers, students, and companies develop and test green solutions together.

The vision includes the establishment of new programmes, the strengthening of existing ones, the creation of new research areas, and the development of Risų Gateway - an innovation and business park established in collaboration with Roskilde Municipality and Andel.

Initially, the intake for BEng in Industrial Engineering will be 30 students. The plan is for an increasing number of students to have their daily activities at DTU Risų Campus over the coming years.

Industrial Engineering

The BEng in Industrial Engineering prepares graduates for a labour market with a strong demand for engineers who understand what it takes to produce complex products, production systems, and energy solutions.

Many engineers with skills in industrial technology work in the energy sector, including solar energy, district heating, biogas, and wind power. Those with an interest in production, maintenance, and operations can also work in other product-focused sectors, such as medical devices.

Alternatively, graduates may choose to work in consulting firms, helping companies improve their production processes, making them more efficient, sustainable, or economically viable.
